Experienced candidates with 3 to 7 years of experience are deemed qualified if they are CPAs and their experience is in public accounting and/or insurance. Career opportunities exist at Strohm Ballweg on an ongoing basis for entry level staff accountants or for employees with limited experience. Typically, we hire 2-3 employees each year. Some of those hired may return from internships, but others are hired directly from qualified applicants. Staff accountants are best qualified if they have a college degree either in accounting or with an emphasis in accounting. To be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, students must have earned 150 credits from their university. Most often, we hire candidates who are eligible to sit for the CPA exam, are in the process of taking the CPA exam, or have passed all sections of the CPA exam. Our expectation is that all new employees will take and pass all parts of the CPA exam during their first two years of employment if they don't have it when hired.
Candidates should have an interest in audit and corporate tax work (we have no personal income tax clients). Experience in the insurance industry is also a significant plus. Candidates should also expect out-of-town travel of about 30-35% of the year, mainly during the busy months of January to May. Audit engagements are conducted using a team approach involving two to five employees with various levels of experience.
