Our public accounting internship program is for college students interested in pursuing public accounting and CPA certification.

Our public accounting internships provide scheduling flexibility to students in order to meet academic needs. With a public accounting internship at Strohm Ballweg, you will experience an environment of continuous learning. Strohm Ballweg offers accounting internships every Spring Semester. These internships are full-time positions and are paid at a rate similar to a new staff accountant. Internships begin in early January and typically run through mid-April or early May, depending on our needs and our interns’ college schedule. Summer internships may also be available.

Strohm Ballweg was formed in 1999 in Madison, Wisconsin. Initially, the firm was a spin-off of the national insurance practice of a large national audit firm. Strohm Ballweg was created to focus solely on providing insurance clients with exceptional and personal service with an experienced staff, knowledgeable about the insurance industry.

Requirements for a public accounting internship at Strohm Ballweg:

  • Must be attending a 4 year University and be enrolled in an accounting program
  • Must be at a junior or senior level
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or working towards achievement of bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have ability to grow client relationships
  • Must have strong accounting skills
  • Must have excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have a passion for doing impactful work with accountability for actions and have integrity that places honesty and trust above all else
  • Must have demonstrated self-motivation and have a desire to take responsibility for personal growth and career development
  • Must have desire to want to pursue a career in public accounting
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office products

Responsibilities of a public accounting internship at Strohm Ballweg:

  • Help with a wide variety of accounting jobs and special projects
  • Assist with account reconciliations
  • Assist with audits
  • Review and update data files and documents
  • Support multiple client engagements on time and within budget
  • Complete tax related research and special projects as needed
  • Attend training workshops when available
  • Maintain confidentiality of firm and client information
  • Adhere to Strohm Ballweg policies, procedures, rules, regulations and code of ethics

  • Prepare work papers for reviews, compilations and tax returns
  • Communicate progress of engagements, problems and resolutions to team members and Partners
